Texas barbecue is known for Brisket. Large slabs of beef slowing smoked for hours then sliced thin. So tender no need for a knife. In Texas brisket rules the roost.

Kansas City, Missouri: Considered the Capital of Barbecue
Every region in the US has their version of barbecue, and of course, theirs is the best. When discussing who has the best barbecue you must include Kansas City to the mix. Barbecue and Kansas City just go hand in hand.
Living in Kansas City barbecue means Burnt Ends. These are the end tips of the Brisket which are so flavorful they serve on their own.
Kansas City barbecue sauce is sweat and tangy. Put that stuff on everything.

Los Angeles, California: A Little Bit of Everything
The diversity of Los Angeles creates its own unique culture which follows all the way through its food. One of America’s great cities and a major food destination.
Everywhere you look in Los Angeles you will see a taco stand or food truck. The area’s large Hispanic population creates street cuisine that is the making of legends.
Awesome Korean barbecue, sushi and fusion dishes can be found easily due to the strong Asian influences.
Favorite Los Angeles:
- Korean BBQ
- Street Tacos
- Sushi
- French Dip Sandwiches
Pops Says: In Los Angeles, every neighborhood brings its own unique flavors.
In Los Angeles good food can be found everywhere. Food trucks and taco stands are a fine science here and you will find just about anything between the two even Korean BBQ tacos. But for me, I cannot pass up on good sushi with extra eel sauce and wasabi. Some sake on the side and I am good for the day.
Miami, Florida: A Caldron of the Caribbean
The Miami food scene is a combination of all the Caribbean Islands, Latin America and especially Cuba.
A favorite staple sandwich, the Cuban Sandwich, is a signature throughout Miami. Made with roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on pressed Cuban bread.

A great Cuban Sandwich is like great pizza or wings. Just right with your favorite beverage and good friends watching the game from the cheap seats or the video screens outside the stadium. However you are able to take in the world cup festivities is what is right for you. Just do it but make sure to bring plenty of food.
New York City, New York – America’s Food Capital
The Big Apple is just synonymous with food. It is one of few cities where you can find just about anything foodwise from anywhere in the world. With Little Italy, Chinatown, and the famous New York Delis, no food tour is complete without a stop in New York City but certain food are best known in NY, NY.
New York Deli Sandwiches cannot be beat. Name your meat! Sliced paper thin, piled high and melt in the mouth. Pick your bread and/or style, traditional, sub or hoagie. They’re all here with all the fixings.
Fresh warm Bagels: For a morning starter or afternoon snack. Loaded with cream cheese or any other topping. Just some butter and honey works well too.
Fold a slice of Pizza on Time Square or Central Park. Large thin crust slices are the way it works in New York City. Hot, Fresh and Made to Order!
Favorites in New York City:
- Deli sandwiches
- Fresh Bagels
- Pizza

Pops Says: Take as many different bites as you can in the Big Apple.
After living my first 18 years of life in NJ, I know what a great deli can do for that trip to the game. But in New York City they take it to a whole other level. When they slap on the meat it is half the slab. Cut paper thin, moist and tender, and cuts like butter. But do not forget Little Italy or Chinatown. I once shared a Stingray Dinner with my son at a Malaysian restaurant in Chinatown. One of the best meals I ever had.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Philly Cheesesteaks are King
Another city rich in Revolutionary history. Constitution Hall, the Liberty Bell and the home of Benjamin Franklin. With the 250th anniversary of America this year is a great time for the World Cup and paying a visit.
Home of the Philly Cheesesteak. Grilled thin slices of steak or beef cuts smothered in Mozzarella or Provolone melted cheese served in a long hoagie roll. A hearty sandwich.
For breakfast you may find Scrapple. The beef and/or pork offcuts boiled and grinded. Mixed with grains, seasons and bread crumbs and placed in a loaf pan. Grilled and served as slices like meat loaf.
Many locals also love roast pork sandwiches and soft pretzels
Favorites in Philadelphia:
- Philly Cheesesteak
- Scrapple
- Roast Pork Sandwich
- Soft Pretzels
- Water Ice – Cousin to Italian Ice or Snow Cones
Pops Says: To visit Philly and not have a cheesesteak is like having the World Cup with no fans.
Philadelphia is a great city for a walking tour learning and viewing the birthplace of our country. When it comes time to eat or pick something up for the World Cup game you have got to pick up Cheesesteaks for your crew. Add grilled peppers and onions if you like. I prefer grilled onions and mushrooms and make my cheese provolone.
San Francisco, California – Seafood, Barbecue, and Sourdough
The home of rolling hills, trolly cars and the Golden Gate Bridge are ready to welcome World Cup fans with west coast hospitality and great food.
Dungeness crab is a favorite among visitors and locals alike.

Cedar-Planked Salmon is a local favorite.

Pops Says: Seattle offers a perfect combination of waterfront scenery and fresh Pacific Northwest flavors.
The place for easy access to all the great food Seattle has to offer is one block off the bay at Pike Place Market. Everything from seafood to pastries to coffee joints are all within a one square block area. This includes the original storefront of Starbucks Coffee. Pike Place is an open air farmers market with additional floors as you go down the side of a hill into the bay. We stopped for oysters and Mahi Mahi hoagies.
Local Food Favorites at the World Cup are Made For Memories
Whether traveling with friends, family, or both, following your favorite teams, have fun at the stadiums and their festivities. Make sure, though, whether you’re from another country or from another state to take in the city and the culture you are visiting. Food is one of the main differences between cultures and even regions. Ask people on the street or Uber drivers for tips on where to go for certain food. Sometimes it is the out of the way holes in the wall restaurants or cafes that can wow you.
From news reports it sounds like Butter Milk Ranch Dressing is making a real impression on foriegn visitors. I do not blame you. My family uses that stuff with everything from salads to chicken wings we make sure there is a bottle in the pantry at all times.
Now that I live about 45 minutes outside of Atlanta I can say there are several places foreign visitors absolutely must try out. First, for those late night, or come to think of it, anytime munchies, seek out a Waffle House. They are located at every exit off of I-85 or I-75 and dotted through the city of Atlanta.
Second on the list for Atlanta is Chic-fil-A. You are in the chicken capital of America when in Georgia. You might as well sample the best chicken sandwich ever created, in my humble opinion. Just do the regular Chic-fil-A sandwich combo and all things will align for a good day.
The third and last experience that is wowing foreign visitors is unfortunately a two hour drive either north or south of Atlanta. And I am referring to the mega convenience store gas station called Buc-ees. There is one in Warner Robins, GA, south or to the north and north of Adairsville, GA. Both are directly off of I-75. If you just want to see how big a gas station can be, then Buc-ees is your kind of place.
Final Words For Our Visitors
Each host city tells its own story through food. Whether you are enjoying brisket in Texas, seafood in Boston, tacos in Los Angeles, or peach cobbler in Atlanta, every meal becomes part of the journey. The best souvenirs are often the memories made around a table with friends and family. So follow your favorite team, explore a new city, and don’t forget to sample the local favorites along the way. Because sometimes the most memorable moments of the World Cup happen long after the final whistle blows.
